Our Green Team is led by our Group CEO, Greg Brennan, and has gained 15 members over the last 6 years who continuously work towards advancing our sustainability initiatives. Our goals align with the standards set by globally recognised sustainability accreditors, Ecovadis and EcoMerit. By collaborating across departments, we drive positive change and foster a culture of environmental responsibility.

We began our green journey when we won the ‘Best Indigenous Innovation Award’ at the Energy in Agriculture awards 2018 and the ‘Best Agri Innovation Award’ at the National Irish Ploughing Championships 2018.

Our cutting-edge Carbon Emissions Monitoring System developed by our channel partner Invisible Systems allows us to keep a close eye on our carbon emissions on site.

In 2023 we set a minimum carbon reduction target of 7.5% year on year, and we achieved this goal with an 8% reduction in our C02 ouput, last year in 2023.

Taking The Bright Step Forward With Our Solar Panels Installation

We’re proud to share that we’ve installed solar panels in our Dublin and Belfast offices.

By harnessing the renewable power of the sun we reduce our dependency on fossil fuels thereby cutting our C02 emission output.

With the installation of our solar panels and our switch to hybrid/electric vehicles in our fleet we are making major steps in lowering our carbon emissions as an eco-conscious company.

Last year in 2023 we reduced our carbon emissions by 8%, we look forward to watching our C02 output decline further through our state-of-the-art emissions monitoring system by Invisible systems.

Brennan & Co. became Eco Merit certified in 2022 and have since recently achieved our eco merit certification for 2023 through implementing eco-focused improvements recommended by eco-merit in our 2022 evaluation. Eco Merit is an organisation that supports enterprises in the optimal use of their resources, notably energy, carbon, waste and water, by providing guidance.

We’re proud to share that we’re EcoVadis certified! EcoVadis is the world’s largest and most trusted business sustainability ratings system used by over 100,000 organisations worldwide.

Driving Change With Our Electric Vehicle Debut

Introducing our first electric vehicle to our internal fleet. As part of our ongoing commitment to reduce our ecological footprint, we’re proud to take this step towards greener transportation options.

Why Electric Vehicles?

Did you know that a staggering 75% of our group’s emissions originate from our fleet? Recognising this significant impact, we’re embracing the transition to electric vehicles to significantly reduce our carbon footprint.

We have also installed a 22KW double connector EV charger at our Dublin and Belfast offices for employee use. To facilitate the roll-out of our electric vehicle fleet.

We use Ecosia as our primary search engine, they plant a tree for roughly every 45 web searches, helping to rebuild our worlds forests one search at a time.

Swapping To Eco Friendly Packing Alternatives by Ranpak

We are excited to announce a significant change in our packaging solutions for deliveries, one that aligns with our dedication to environmental responsibility. We are now proud to use eco-friendly packaging materials from Ranpak, a leader in sustainable packaging solutions and amongst the most environmentally friendly solutions available in the insulated box market today.

At Brennan & Co. we have recently swapped our previous coldpacks to an eco-friendly alternative.  RecyCold® climaliner™ cold packs by Ranpak are used for temperature sensitive products during delivery.  RecyCold® cold packs are an eco-friendly >98.5% paper-based solution offers up to 48 hours of thermal protection for frozen, chilled, and ambient products.

Our new delivery boxes and packing paper by Ranpak stand out for their eco-credentials. They are biodegradable, recyclable, and renewable. Unlike with plastic packaging, biological organisms can break down our boxes and packing paper into basic compounds, including CO2, water, and biomass. In fact, this breakdown process can take as little as a week.

Choosing eco-friendly office supplies and company merchandise reduces unnecessary waste and conserves resources.

Our new reusable coffee cups and pens are made from eco-friendly materials sourced from wheat, isn’t that neat! While, our new notepads are made from recycled bottles.

Additionally, our sticky notes made from fully recycled materials are not only a practical tool for jotting down important reminders but also a conscious choice for the environment.

Reduction and proper disposal of waste

We minimise our waste output through reduced consumption and  effective and environmentally sound waste management and recycling procedures. Our Waste Management policy is available on request. We are also members of Repak and the WEEE and Battery Compliance Scheme  – certificates available on request.

In order to ensure that correct waste disposal practices are understood and followed by all, we have put posters above our office bins outlining what is suitable to dispose of in each bin.
